Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a tax of 30% on income from transfer of virtual digital assets.
RBI is set to launch digital rupee based on blockchain technology by FY23, she added.
India's crypto exchange platform CoinSwitch Kuber has welcomed the move, adding, "This will induct more digital-savvy Indians into an emerging asset class worth over $6 billion in investments."
