Jammu, January 23: Senior National Conference leader, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that the central government is trying to ‘Saffronise’ the education system of the country.

The issue of “saffronisation of the education sector” was raised by the NC legislator while speaking on the grants of the Education Department.

He warned the State Government against the attempts of the BJP government to saffronise the education sector.

However, the Minister of Home (MoS) for Education Department, Priya Sethi asked the Speaker, Kavinder Gupta to expunge the NC legislator’s remarks claiming, “I think this issue should be raised in the Lok Sabha by the NC Parliamentarians. This matter has no relevance in the State Assembly. So, I request the Speaker to expunge the remarks of NC MLA.”

This irked the NC legislator say, “How can you expunge my words? I am also a citizen of this country, this state. I too have the right to speak on important issues of public importance. There’s no doubt that your government is saffronising the education sector by making the Surya Namaskar and other RSS rituals compulsory.”

Neither the Speaker nor the Minister then replied to the NC legislator.

The issue of “saffronisation of the education sector” was raised by the NC legislator while speaking on the grants of the Education Department.

Addressing the Education Minister Altaf Bukhari, the NC MLA said, “By implementing the GST in the state earlier, Drabu Sahib had embraced saffron culture and now attempts are being made to saffronise the education sector. You should resist such attempts.”

Sagar also said that the BJP leadership in Delhi is even changing the names of the various institutions and deleting chapters on the former Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Sagar also blamed the government for promoting the favoritism in the Kashmir University.
