Srinagar, March 8: Former chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday accused Jammu and Kashmir government of buckling down under pressure after it had told the Supreme Court that there was no mention of Major Aditya in the FIR lodged in Shopian firing incident in which three civilians were killed in January this year.

“We have only said that there should be an enquiry in a proper way. Since, there was contradiction in the versions of Army and state government and there was a difference in the two versions. People want that reality should be put in front of them...,” Omar said.

Questioning chief minister Mehbooba Mufti over her statement made inside the legislative assembly Omar said: “CM had made commitment inside assembly. What will happen to it? Since CM had not made it once, but twice she said that FIR will be taken to its logical conclusion. But, totally different thing was said in Supreme Court. Certainly state government has come under pressure to put this incident into cold storage”.

Demanding an impartial enquiry into the Pahnoo firing incident in which four civilians were killed, Omar said that facts should be brought to public notice.

“We have only said that there should be an enquiry in a proper way. Since, there was contradiction in the versions of Army and state government and there was a difference in the two versions. People want that reality should be put in front of them...,” Omar said.

On Ganowpora killings, Omar said: “FIR is with everybody. This is an age of social media. These are the times when everyone gets the copy of FIR. It is not like old times. Everybody knows what has written in it”, Omar said adding “I am surprised over the government’s reply in Supreme Court”.

Earlier, an FIR was lodged in Ganowpora firing incident which mentioned the Army’s 10 Garhwal unit and named Major Aditya in the FIR.  The case was registered under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 336 (endangering life).

Later, Supreme Court stayed Jammu and Kashmir government from carrying out any action against the Major, after his father approached the court with his son’s plea.

And FIR against Major was put on hold, while the state government told the apex court that the Major Aditya was not named in the FIR.
