Dollars vs Deaths

CHICAGO - There is a very heated debate going on between the defenders of economy and proponents of saving lives. Defenders of economy are blaring into the ears of President, Governors and lawmakers to open the economy as soon as possible. Proponents of saving lives are not far behind trying to convince President, Governors and the lawmakers to keep the country, states under lockdown till we control this pandemic.

I hear both of them. I see logic and compelling reasons on both sides. But we have to be extra careful and cautious in siding with either argument or premise.

We all know thousands of lives have been lost and we also know millions of jobs have been lost. We all know thousands of people are sick as we speak with this deadly and dreadful virus. We also know millions of people are unemployed, unable to pay rent, unable to put food on the table.

We as one human family need to find a vaccine, a treatment for this virus. We as one human family have to find a way of feeding, providing shelter for all those in need.

Either before opening our country or states or keeping the lockdown in place we need to put great emphasis on the concept of TRACKING, TESTING AND TREATING.

Whatever we do we should not trade dollars for deaths.
