The BF.7 (BA.5.2.1.7) variant of the Omicron COVID-19 virus is a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant BA.5. It's currently dominant in China and is driving their COVID-19 wave.
It has a higher likelihood of spreading and replacing other variants than the original Wuhan virus. It hasn't been known to cause any dramatic rise in hospitalisations in countries other than China.
