CHANDIGARH : Panjab University, Chandigarh jointly with Natural Biodiversity Society has organized a Seminar entitled ‘Snake Diversity: Issues and Conservation Measures’ with a view to spreading awareness amongst the employees and residents of Panjab University, Chandigarh on August 31, 2017, at Auditorium, Dr. S. S. Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (2:30 pm - 5:30 pm).

Col. (Retd.) Gurjit Singh Chadha, Registrar, Panjab University welcomed the audience and emphasized the need of creating the awareness and sensitizing people regarding the handling of snakes. The Seminar was inaugurated by Chief Guest Prof. Arun K. Grover, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University ; He emphasized the need of the requirements and immediate actions for prevention and the conservation measures. He encouraged the colleagues and youngsters for taking up such endeavors and measures.
There were four key speakers for the event.
Col. Yash Singh, delivered a lecture on The Snakes of the Region: Identification and Precautions. Capt. (Retd.) Suresh Sharma delivered a lecture on A Prelude to a Plan for Snakes of India at Institutional Level Dr. Ankur Diwan: Snake Venoms their Types, Medico and Biomedical Aspects and about Medical Aid in a Snake Bite. Lt. Gen. K. J. Singh who had joined as the Guest of Honour provided his valuable remarks. He emphasized that Punjab University should take a lead in bringing out handouts and some brochures in this regard so that citizens may get benefitted..Dr. Arun Bansal, Coordinator from Natural Biodiversity Society briefed about the Society.
Prof. (Dr.) Promila Pathak, coordinator of the Seminar from Panjab University, Chandigarh presented vote of thanks. She expressed that such an event is essential for creating awareness towards important issues of the society which are mostly hidden or are not keenly highlighted due to lack of knowledge and interest and therefore play an important role in keeping a constant touch with our environment and educate us about our natural surroundings.
