CHANDIGARH: Despite playing a 3-3 draw with Malwa School of Ludhiana Chandigarh XI moved into semi-final on the basis of their better goal average in the 16th Coal India SN Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior (Under-14) Hockey Tournament being hosted by Rock Rovers Club at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today.
Chandigarh XI are scheduled to face DAV Senior Secondary School Shahabad (Haryana) in the first semi-final tomorrow at 2.30 p.m.
Formidable Surjit Hockey Academy of Jalandhar will cross swords with M.S.S. Hockey Academy of Gazipur in the second semi-final billed at 4 p.m. Surjit Hockey Academy today gave a hockey lesson to Baba Uttam Singh Hockey Academy of Khadoor Sahib whom they outplayed with a big 11-1 margin.
In the first league match of the day, Chandigarh XI led 3-0 before Malwa School fought back and scored three goals in a span of five minutes to snatch an honourable 3-3 draw. Five goals came in the second half. Chandigarh XI struck early in the match through Harjot who scored a field goal in the fourth minute.
Thereafter the teams played resorted to defensive play and the game was generally confined to midfield. However, on crossing over Chandigarh XI got two quick goals in two minutes through Toshant (50th) and Harjot (51st) to take a 3-0 lead.
Three goals down, Malwa School reorganised their game and scored three quick goals through Gurtejpal (64th), Manpreet (65th) and Amritpal (69th) to restore parity. Despite the draw, Malwa School made their exit from the tournament.
Surjit Hockey Academy registered another resounding 11-1 verdict against Baba Uttam Singh Hockey Academy of Khadoor Sahib. The highlight of the one-sided match was three goals each by Dilraj and Prabhjit.
Prabhjot (18th), Dilraj (7th, 22nd, 25th), Sanjay (35th), Prabhjit (43rd, 61st, 64th), Prince (49th), Harmanpreet (69th) and Manmeet (70th) were their scorers.
The face-saving goal for BUSH Academy came from the stick of Tushar in the 56th minute (1-7).
