CHANDIGARH: Three day state level inter college weight lifting, power lifting and best physique tournaments began at Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran campus here today. Around 200 participants from more than twenty colleges across the state are competing in these tournaments. CGC has been hosting these championships for the past 10 years.
In the weightlifting competitions on day one, Gourav Chamyal of CGC Landran won the first prize in 56 kg category, Gurkirat Singh of CGC Jhanjeri in 62 kg category, Krishabh Bhasin and Vedant of host college won the first prize in 69 kg category and 77 kg categories, respectively. In the 85 kg and 94 kg categories, Mohit and Sahil Gandhi of CGC Landran won the first prize, respectively. Rohit from RIET Phagwara won the first prize in the 105kg category while Abhishek Sharma from BBS Kharar has won the first position in 105kg-plus category. Day two and day three will see participants competing in powerlifting and best physique tournaments.
Dignitaries present on the occasion included Mr HS Bansal, Vice President, Chandigarh Weightlifting Association and Mr KDS Nagra, President Chandigarh Powerlifting Association among others.
Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC Landran and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC Landran extended a warm welcome to all the students and faculty of participating colleges and wished them the very best. Emphasizing the important role that sports play in promoting a disciplined and fit lifestyle they also underscored how participating in a game was more crucial than winning or losing.
