What Is Amethyst?

Amethyst is a beautiful purple stone often used to calm the mind and cultivate a spiritual connection. It varies in color from pale lavender to deep purple, and is generally a very popular stone for both jewelry and restorative practices. It’s the February birthstone, as well as a traditional gift for sixth wedding anniversary. 

While amethyst used to be considered as valuable as emeralds and rubies, it is now much easier to obtain thanks to large deposits that were discovered in Brazil in the 19th century. Most of the amethyst found in Brazil is a medium shade of purple. Some amethyst can be heat-treated to alter its color, turning it into yellow citrine.

Uses in Feng Shui

Activate Xun, the Wealth Area

The wealth area of the feng shui bagua, called Xun in Chinese, is associated with abundance of all kinds. It’s also connected to your sense of self-worth. This is one of the most popular areas of the bagua, and it’s also related to the color purple. If you’d like to work on inviting more abundance into your life, financial or otherwise, try placing an amethyst crystal in the Xun area of your home or bedroom. Find Xun, or your wealth area, by standing at the front door of your home or bedroom looking in, and locating the far left corner. 

Activate Qian, the Helpful People Area

Because of amethyst’s ability to connect heaven and earth, it can be a welcome addition to the Helpful People area of the bagua, called Qian. This area is connected to benefactors and travel, as well as the concept of heaven. If you would like to create a stronger connection to the heavens, or invite more help from otherworldly sources, you may want to place amethyst here with that intention. To find the Qian position, stand in the front doorway of your home facing in. The right corner closest to you will be Qian 

Create a Calming Bedroom

Because of amethyst’s ability to calm and quiet the mind and create feelings of serenity, it’s a great crystal for easing restlessness. Try placing amethyst on your nightstand or under your bed to encourage deeper, more restorative rest. Amethyst can also help you to recall your dreams, so you may want to keep it near your bed with the intention of fostering a greater connection to your dream world.
