Jimmy Kimmel to host Oscars 2023

November 08, 2022 03:31 PM

Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the Oscars 2023. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences shared the news on Instagram today, November 7, on Instagram. The Oscars will be held on March 12 next year. This will be the third time that Kimmel serves as the host of the Academy Awards. He had previously done the honours in 2017 and 2018.

THE ACADEMY FEELS HE CAN CONNECT WITH A GLOBAL AUDIENCE

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a joint statement that Jimmy Kimmel has been selected for the Oscars 2023 because of his ability to connect with a global audience.

"His love of movies, live TV expertise, and ability to connect with our global audiences will create an unforgettable experience for our millions of viewers worldwide. With Kimmel, Weiss and Kirshner’s fresh perspective and masterful guidance, the Oscars will celebrate its rich 95-year history, the collaborative nature of moviemaking, and our diverse, dynamic and deeply creative community of filmmakers," read the statement.

JIMMY KIMMEL'S CHEEKY REACTION

Jimmy Kimmel thanked The Academy for giving him the opportunity.

"Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honor or a trap. Either way, I am grateful to the academy for asking me," he said.

Interestingly, Chris Rock hosted the ceremony last year and garnered attention with his comic timing. The event, however, ended up being a debacle when Will Smith hit the comedian for cracking a joke at his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

The Academy will be hoping to put on a less controversial ceremony this time around. The Oscars 2023 will be held on March 12.
