Gobind Khatra, 30 years, passed away after brief illness at PGIMER, Chandigarh on Tuesday. He was the grandson of veteran senior Akali leader and transporter Pritam Singh Khatra.

Gobind started his political career from his college days and became the Chairman of SOPU in 2007. From the year 2009-2013, he remained the state president for NSUI and All India general secretary from 2013-2018.

Currently he was the Incharge for NSUI affairs of Haryana, Goa, Orissa, JNU, Uttarkhand, Andhra Pradesh and a member of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC).

Prior to the previous Vidhan Sabha elections in the state, Gobind remained Convenor of Captain Amarinder Singh’s volunteer programme ‘Jaggo Punjab’ in 2016-17.

His sudden demise has led to a pall of gloom in Khatra family as well as the Amargarh constituency of Sangrur district, where he had worked hard for the last several years.
