PHAGWARA: Pall of gloom descended in Phagwara village Bohani when the mortal remains of Village Youth Sukhwinder Singh killed in Iraq were received by his family members after 7PM on Monday late evening.

Unfortunately but shockingly the coffin box brought in Ambulance from Amritsar Airport was taken to straight Crematorium in nearby Village Bohani and was cremated in the dark. Nirmal Singh Father of the deceased lit the pyre. He said family was not allowed to open the coffin which was set on fire along with mortal remains of his son. Deputy commissioner Kapurthala Mohammad Tayyab, SSP Kapurthala Sandeep Sharma, SDM Jyoti Bala,Naib Tehsildar Swapandeep Kaur, SP Parminder Bhandhal and Mayor Arun Khosla was present on the occasion. DC assured the family to give financial assistance to the family as per norms.

Sukhwinder who had gone to Iraq in 2010, had been missing since 2014. He was one of the 39 Indians who had been kidnapped and kept in captivity by the ISIS. The family had no clue about the whereabouts of Sukhwinder after his sudden disappearance in Iraq.
